I say it every chance I get. Oaxaca is one of my favorite cities. I love its old houses, its low height, its floors and its streets. To talk about its food would already be commonplace: extraordinary moles, chocolate and tangled quesillos. So it's no surprise that I take every opportunity to visit it.

On this occasion I was invited to speak about the Mexican economy and Oaxaca's competitiveness as part of the Jornadas Universitarias organized by the Vasconcelos University. I was warned from the moment I arrived: we have a problem with solid waste. I visited Oaxaca three months ago. The city I saw this weekend has nothing to do with the one I saw in August. Not only were the dumpsters on the busy tourist streets full, the garbage was overflowing and attracting all kinds of vermin. As for the smell, I don't even want to talk about it.

Women at the forefront of the debate, leading the way to a more inclusive and equitable dialogue. Here, diversity of thought and equitable representation across sectors are not mere ideals; they are the heart of our community.
