Heard from afar, the war cry "Viva la libertad, carajo!" is encouraging. We all want freedom and I join the cry: Viva la libertad, carajo! But the reality is that Javier Milei is anything but "libertarian", as he calls himself; that moniker that presumes to promote individual freedom, free thinking and the defense of personal rights.
Only at the beginning of his government he banned the use of inclusive language in Argentina's public administration. Long live freedom, dammit!
Last week, during his participation in the World Economic Forum, the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, launched a fierce attack against wokism, from the English word woke, " awake", which is not the same as awake, a more general and older term in the English language, which simply means "not to be asleep" or "to be aware or alert".
The term woke originally comes from African-American vernacular English, meaning "to be aware of social and racial injustices."
In modern discourse, it often refers to being aware of and actively addressing various social issues, including racism, sexism and other forms of inequality.
What was originally a positive attribute that promoted awareness and change, ultra-conservative sectors of the far right in several Western countries, from 2020 onwards, twisted it in a pejorative way to describe what they see as an overly politically correct mentality.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Javier Milei said:
"Today I come here to tell you that our battle is not won, that while hope has been reborn it is our moral duty and our historical responsibility to dismantle the ideological edifice of sickly Wokism. [...] Until we succeed in getting the majority of the countries of the West to embrace the ideas of freedom once again. [...] Forums such as this one have been protagonists and promoters of the sinister agenda of Wokism that is doing so much damage to the West. [...] This is the basis on which Wokism was built, a regime of one-track thinking, sustained by various institutions whose purpose is to criminalize dissent. [...] Wokism, moreover, manifests itself in sinister radical environmentalism and the climate change banner. [...] But again, Wokism has managed to pervert this elementary idea of preserving the environment for the enjoyment of human beings. [...] Wokism has also distorted the cause of immigration. [...] Wokism has permeated our societies so deeply, promoted by institutions like this one, that it has even questioned the very idea of sex through the nefarious ideology of gender".
Javier Milei has expressed that Wokism is a "cancer that must be eradicated" and a "mental virus" that has infiltrated important institutions worldwide by promoting excessive activism, censorship through the culture of cancellation, the imposition of "progressive" ideologies, which distort noble causes such as feminism, climate change and gender ideology.
What a libertarian who demands censorship disguised as liberating through slaps on the presidential desk: "Don't think. Do not question. Do not analyze anything. We have it all figured out for you. Don't worry about women's rights. In the end they are just women. Don't question whether factories pollute. They generate jobs. Don't examine what you eat. It's food with pesticides. Don't disown meat. Swallow it, you vegan bastards! Don't debate about the rights of minorities and the needy. Get to work, you assholes! Don't ask about gender identity. There are only two: female and male. Stop the printing presses and long fucking live freedom!
