On the last night of 2024, Paseo de la Reforma was crowded with more than 200,000 people to witness the Polymarchs show.
But the note was given by Claudio Ochoa, journalist of Latinus Diario, when he revealed that Apolinar Silva -father of Paulina Silva, coordinator of social communication of President Claudia Sheinbaum- received from the government of Clara Brugada (or, rather, from the taxes of the capital) a payment of 12 million pesos, much more than the renowned groups that have performed in previous years such as Los Ángeles Azules, who charged between 1.5 to 1.8 million pesos; Banda Pequeños Musical, between 1.5 and 1.8 million pesos; La Sonora Dinamita, between 50 thousand and 1 million 900 thousand pesos; Los Tigres Del Norte, between 3.5 and 4.5 million pesos per concert and La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, around 2 million pesos.
Is this a diversion of resources, one part for tata Silva and another for mom Sheinbaum? With the idea that money is urgently needed to pay scholarships and pensions. But don't listen to me. I don't think that's the way it's going.
Never forget this maxim: the more expensive the circus, the more nefarious what you are trying to hide.
I believe that a little scandal like these is more profitable than what may really concern the citizens, such as the decree published in the early morning of January 1 in the Official Gazette of the Federation that extends the official pre-trial detention.
Informal pre-trial detention is increasingly dangerous in Mexico. Any judge can order automatic imprisonment for those accused of extortion, tax fraud, corruption for illicit enrichment or use of social programs for electoral purposes, among other more serious crimes, without the possibility of alternative precautionary measures.
Informal pretrial detention viol ates the right to personal liberty, the presumption of innocence, equality before the law, judicial independence, the right to judicial review, due process, the right to personal integrity and human rights.
Time is running out. With the current government, Mexico is today a country with fewer freedoms . In the coming years, any opponent of the government could go to jail if they invent an investigation file for extortion, tax fraud, corruption for illicit enrichment or use of social programs for electoral purposes.
Mexico is today, with the current government, a country without democracy. The INE is a pantomime. As long as MORENA remains in power forget about having transparent elections.
According to the newspaper REFORMA, in less than 100 days of government they changed the Constitution every 15 hours, during 40 legislative sessions. All to dismantle what was built in the last 50 years.
