Why does corruption persist in this six-year term? This is a question we must ask ourselves urgently. Despite the speeches and promises of a fairer and more transparent Mexico, corruption remains an indelible stain; and probably the answer to the question is: because it is allowed. Just as it is allowed to kill, kidnap and disappear people. Because the system seems to be adequate for it.
Five years into the government that promised zero corruption, that of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and the new journalistic stories about influence peddling, conflicts of interest and corruption do not cease.
The most recent, and what should be a scandal: an investigative report signed by journalist Jorge García Orozco, and published in EMEEQUISsheds light on a corruption scheme that raises disturbing questions.
