While Aitana Bonmatí was getting ready in Paris for the Ballon d'Or gala, an award given every year by France Football magazine to the best European football players of the year, something else was brewing in Switzerland, the headquarters of FIFA.
Two months later and after hundreds of thousands of controversies in social networks, radio and television programs, journalistic articles, video and photo analysis, an exemplary sanction for Luis Rubiales, former president of the Real Federación Española de Futbol, arrived: three years of disqualification by FIFA, for "violating the rules of civic conduct" and "adopting a conduct that discredits soccer and FIFA", all this, on October 30, 2023.
Although Rubiales may go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne to appeal the sanction, the situation looks very complex for the former president of the RFEF. He accuses that there was political and media pressure in his country to remove him from his post, alleges that the kiss was consensual, although Jennifer Hermoso categorically denied on several occasions that the act was consensual.
