"Give me 1 kilo of tomatoes, the pineapple I've already handled and that 6'4" tall guy, please".

A young man records his trip to the supermarket, his mother asks him why he does it, he says that to document the purchase, normal in his generation, he takes a glass with pineapples already cut and puts it in the shopping cart, he would have taken a whole pineapple but there are no more, in that supermarket they always run out. She suggests to her mother to walk down the wine aisle and leaves her alone. There a man carrying a pineapple upside down in his cart bumps into her. He gives her a couple of kisses on the cheeks, says something incomprehensible and leaves. Her son dies laughing as he records everything. The mom doesn't understand why she was kissed, and what the man had to be thinking about the pineapple and crashing the cart when there was plenty of room. This is the phenomenon of Mercadona, the Spanish supermarkets, wherethanks to the virality of social networks you can go looking for a partner by sending the signal that you are on the hunt by putting a pineapple upside down in your cart.

According to the site puromarketing.com this trend started years ago with an old comment about how the supermarket would be a good place to flirt, which was later taken up by an actress and finally caught up with the virality of social networks.

Tiktok and Instagram are flooded with hilarious videos of people who from 7 to 8pm (because there are hours) leave the pineapple rack empty to go in search of love, or at least a good video that leaves them some likes. But there is something here that is more interesting to watch.

Going around a place like a catwalk to look for a partner is not new. In different cities there were gazebos that changed their vocation to become a cupid. But this phenomenon is happening two years after a long lock-in, in the swipe right/left furor, in the era of Instagram filters. So looking for a date in the supermarket while sober, early, casually dressed, in the unflattering light of the supermarket doesn't sound bad. I'm curious about bumping the cart to send the signal that you're interested, although I still can't find anyone to explain what to do if you're not interested in corresponding with the person you're interested in. And while you're at it, surely some of what's in it might give you some ideas of what to expect: Condoms? wine? lactose-free milk? magnesium? protein bars?

Marketing or completely spontaneous viral phenomenon, in the end it's all the same, it brings us back to the need for the most basic, contact outside the virtual world.

One more doubt, in the end, regardless of the result, do they have to pay for the pineapple or can they return it?
