Pact for women

As part of the 2021 Monterrey Book Fair, Opinion 51 collectively drafted the Pact for Women, which was signed for the first time by Martha Herrera, Secretary of Equality and Social Inclusion and coordinator of the Cabinet for equality for all people of the Government of Nuevo León.

We presented the pact to them and also opened a space for everyone to adhere to it.

Pact for Women

1.-Training on gender perspective in order to eradicate the gap from the root or in a systemic way.

2.- To recognize and protect the rights of children, teenagers .

3.-To actively and permanently promote the incorporation of girls into STEM careers and career paths starting in basic education.

4.-Attend to teenage pregnancy in a comprehensive manner: prevention, care and accompaniment. Not only with early sexual education, but also with information on consent for girls and boys, and with a strategy that allows teenagers mothers to CAN and WANT to finish their studies and work. This requires support from the State: childcare centers, schools that allow babies to go to class, flexible jobs, institutional support networks.

5.-Destigmatize harassment complaints, socializing the means to file complaints and streamlining legal processes.

To disseminate the idea that household care is the responsibility of the cohabitants, without assigning gender roles to the activities.

7.-To promote the rights of domestic workers.

8.-To make visible the contributions and promote the rights of indigenous, Afro-Mexican and migrant women.

9-Promote the use of inclusive and non-sexist language, recognizing diversities.

10- Do not attend public events where the protagonists are only men. Ask for at least one female expert per forum.

Women at the forefront of the debate, leading the way to a more inclusive and equitable dialogue. Here, diversity of thought and equitable representation across sectors are not mere ideals; they are the heart of our community.
