Necropolitics is a new concept emerging from the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) to explain what has been happening in Mexico since the arrival of the Fourth Transformation as a stance against any social movement opposed to the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, i.e., all those who do not agree will be the target of harassment and criminalization.
Luciano Concheiro, Undersecretary of Higher Education, defines necropolitics as "not only the politics of harassment, the criminalization of social movements, but also in the form of a State that decides who lives and who dies.
When launching a couple of weeks ago an edition of 300 copies of his book "The Revolution of Consciences" from the classrooms of Mexico, the official also defined necropolitics as "the State that leaves human rights, social rights and the rights of communities in a dead letter".
