In the designation of the first block of officials who will accompany President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum in her government, the creation of the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Innovation and Technology caused a pleasant surprise due to the relevance that will be given to this sector as a lever for national development; however, what is still unclear is whether this means a restructuring of the Ministry of Public Education and, finally, that higher education will take the leading role it requires in an articulation with science.
It is a fact that throughout the last three administrations, the PAN, PRI and Morena governments have made the reconfiguration of basic education a priority and have therefore placed the need for basic education reform at the center of the debate.
During the government of PAN member Felipe Calderón, under the leadership of the then leader Elba Esther Gordillo Morales, rather than the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), a reform was promoted that transformed textbooks resulting in serious content flaws and a plague of spelling errors.
