The designation by the majority of the University Council of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) for Julia Tagüeña to be emeritus researcher not only recognizes the scientist who bravely faced the judicial harassment of the government of the Cuatroté, but also marks a position.

A few months before the end of the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the persecution of 31 investigators, as in the Inquisition, will be one of the worst chapters of the so-called Fourth Transformation.

The battle waged by Julia Tagüeña during these years earned her more followers than she has accumulated in more than 50 years of scientific work. When the University Council of UNAM announced her determination, the national and international scientific community recognized her as "a patriotic scientist".

This title of emeritus researcher not only recognizes her exceptional contributions in the development of semiconductors that are key to the digital revolution. This is a nanostructure based on the use of amorphous silicon and porous silicon to create, among other things, clean energy through solar panels.

Women at the forefront of the debate, leading the way to a more inclusive and equitable dialogue. Here, diversity of thought and equitable representation across sectors are not mere ideals; they are the heart of our community.
