Last October 11, in this space of Opinion 51, our guest columnist Graciela Rock bravely published "De verdad vida libre de violencia? The Jorge Islas case", where she denounced the abuses and labor harassment perpetrated by Jorge Islas López, current Coordinator of Consulates, appointed by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Rock recounted her experience at the Mexican Consulate in New York and the dynamics of harassment she faced under Islas' command. This report uncovered new testimonies from former and current employees who also reported having been victims of Islas, who, after the publication of the column, issued a joint letter on October 16 denouncing the same patterns of violence and harassment.

In response, Jorge Islas published a letter on his social networks in which he categorically denies the facts, describing the accusations as "generic and abstract".

Today in an interview with Azucena Uresti on Radio Fórmula, Islas went further, calling the complainants liars and affirming that there are no documents or formal complaints against him.

In this special edition of Opinion 51, we offer Graciela Rock's counter-reply.

Violence at the Consulate: the allegations that cannot be ignored
This complaint uncovered new testimonies from former and current employees who also reported having been victims of Islas. By: Graciela Rock

In addition, we publish the testimonies of other women who were victims of abuse and the documents that prove the complaints that Islas tries to deny.

Testimonials "I filed a complaint in my resignation letter".
Three testimonies that add to the allegations against Jorge Islas

At Opinión 51, we believe in giving a voice to those who suffer harassment, abuse and machismo. Therefore, we call on President Claudia Sheinbaum to reconsider the position given to Jorge Islas, given the seriousness of the allegations against him.
