Breaking the silence when you have been raped is one of the most difficult decisions any woman can face.
Shame, guilt, taboo and social factors are some of the mechanisms that do not contribute to the process of denunciation and even to the healing of the victim.
Silence has several meanings, some of them very positive, however, in matters of gender violence it plays totally against the victim because it becomes a protective shield in which the victim takes refuge to think, many times, that what happened did not happen and that by keeping it only for her it is a way to avoid pain, and also for the aggressor, because by not evidencing his actions, he can continue to commit violence.
With so many types of violence, some of which we do not even consider as such because we have normalized them, women in Mexico are faced with the stigmatization and re-victimization that comes with the denunciation itself.
In this context arises a social campaign that as of yesterday we have seen in the streets of various cities and that invites us to talk about this violence that hurts because it is stored there, locked up, buried. #YaNoMás #Háblalo is a proposal that seeks from the simplest of its conception to generate awareness in people about the importance of denouncing.
Grupo IMU, an urban furniture company, together with the columnists of this platform, Opinión 51, and the Citizen Council for Security and Justice of the CDMX have joined forces to urge women in Mexico to raise their voices.
Through the testimonies of 15 outstanding women in various fields, recorded in podcasts, citizens passing through the streets will be able to download a QR code to listen to these stories of violence and become aware of the importance of reporting violence.
The Citizen Council for Security and Justice of the CDMX, for its part, will attend to complaints through its hotline 5555335533 and will offer psychological and legal assistance to women 24/7.
When companies, the media, authorities and society as a whole join forces to raise their voices, something good is always bound to happen.
