Innovation is not a noble title that erects the bearer.
This is not about thinking if asking Chat Gpt another personal thing will lead you to not sleep believing you sold your soul to the devil.
It is a primary, national and -also- sovereign decision.
We are talking about Mexico.
In the infinite corridors of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), a jumble of 3,000 crossed languages, virtual and real, basically emit the same guttural sound:
"It's here."
Deep thinking developments capable of determining how much water is available in the wells of which municipality and whether it is contaminated with metals; algorithms that suggest, according to the patient's story and the emotion in his voice, whether he should be referred for clinical analysis; weather prediction models that help state authorities to issue more accurate warnings for specific risks: hillsides, streams, unstable ground.
Is it a sin to even come close to meeting him?
Is it a sin to use public resources to go from idea to idea at the World Connectivity Forum with 100 specialists and media talking about technological applications all the time? Why think that a business trip is not a business trip?
When public administrations of any rank believe that ideas will knock on their door "because it is in their interest to sell to me", they miss a lot. We have enormous talent working in our governments capable of distinguishing and proposing an idea.
Not for macro and micro management let's make toll booths in which the application of ideas does not flow.
Innovation is not a noble title that erects the bearer. It is ideas in action: it requires a lot of preparation, a lot of head-scratching, planning and fighting: Why not come to Barcelona and get to know the Cell on Wings project? Cell on Wings is the development of a young Vietnamese who carries with a mega drone a data center capable of allowing a trapped population to make calls in floods.
We do not lose power if a technological assistant helps us to give the last word if we know the scope of corporate social responsibility and the responsibility of public resources.
Who should decide and with what development plan to promote more bandwidth in the network? Who develops the infrastructure? The operators? The nations? The market movement?
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona: sales are being fought but also government is being discussed. Yesterday I was on a stage where regulation of AI application in public administration was being debated. Crucial, up-to-date, relevant. Unbiased. The water emergency in the country is not for that. The emergency of attacks on small businesses is not for that.
While we were talking not about the 5 but the 5.5 G, yesterday Yang Chaobin, CEO of ICT Business Group warned about the challenges that companies and big data managers will face if there is no upgrade at a time when AI-driven ideas are raining down. The also director of Huawei's Board of Governors, spoke of the possibility of inclusion in education and health when we move our way of thinking and think more about the application of technology and not reduce it to simplistic definitions: to devices to the ultimate user solution.
It's not Narnia: in one room the T-Mobile guy plants the 6G flag as if it were the moon. In another, archipelago governments in the Pacific offer land to develop huge data centers. In one more, we look like children gawking at PanGU: an AI that makes a movie in an instant that makes us see how Demi Moore did 20 years ago without the consequences of The Substance.
(Then I remembered that I myself write scripts, charge lights, edit: and I want more people to break their lives and heads fighting for a Dip to color on a timeline at 3 am.).
But I liked being the heroine of a dinosaur movie for 5 min.
AI: human to human, giant to human, government to human, or government-government without citizens?
MWC is like wind in my face as I walk and very very little I hear discussions in my accent;
Thinking very calmly about how we (in Mexico) are going to enter into these issues could be a dangerous and historic way to stay out.
