"Mexico don't abandon me", "Not one less", "We want to live without fear", read some of the banners of this 8M in Mexico City, where the largest march ever recorded in the framework of International Women's Day took place. 180 thousand people attended, according to Mexico City authorities.
Slogans were chanted demanding an end to violence against women, the government's response? Once again a walled National Palace.
March 8 is not a women's day, it is an anniversary. It is a day that has its origin in the United States and the ephemeris is registered since 1909; in Mexico it arises as Mexican Women's Day on February 15, 1961 and later in 1975 it is made to coincide with March 8, International Women's Day commemorated by the United Nations Organization. Meanwhile in Italy it is commemorated since 1922.
