Facing the diagnosis is one thing; embarking on the treatment journey is another thing entirely. As I enter this new world of doctors, medications and therapies, I realize that every step is a roller coaster of emotions.

First there are the decisions. What will be the best treatment for me? Chemotherapy? Radiation? A combination? The initial panic overwhelms me, but I remind myself that I am not alone in this. Every medical consultation becomes a barrage of information that I try to absorb, while my loved ones take notes, ask questions and become my advocates.

Soon, the treatment sessions begin. Chemotherapies, with their promise of killing cancer cells, also bring with them an avalanche of side effects. Just a few days after the first session, as I take a shower, I feel my hair falling between my hands. The sensation is devastating, I put the shampoo on so that it slides all the way down to the floor. Tears mix with the shower water. Another very strong moment was when my son, who was trying to cheer me up by stroking my head, kept a lock of my hair between his fingers and instead of sinking into despair, I made a decision: when my hair falls out, I decide. So I opted to shave my hair and bought scarves of all colors. It's my little way of taking back control, of showing the world and myself that I have the power and it is at the same time an act of rebellion and surrender.

However, there is something else that emerges during treatment, something I never expected: a community. At the clinic, where I receive my chemo sessions, I meet other souls in the same battle. There is Miriam, a young mother with an infectious laugh, and Roberto, a retired professor with fascinating stories. These people, along with the dedicated medical staff, become my new family. We share anecdotes, tips to combat side effects, words of encouragement, and sometimes just an understanding silence. With each encounter, the clinic feels less like a place of illness and more like a haven of hope.

Sometimes, when things get tough, when nausea is too intense or fatigue crushes me, it is this new family that gives me strength. When one day, after a particularly tough session, Miriam brings me a hand-knitted blanket, or when Roberto shares his favorite playlist to cheer me up, I realize that, although cancer is a personal battle, it is not one I have to fight alone.

And so, with each session, each side effect, each victory and each setback, the treatment progresses. Weeks turn into months, and although there are times when I feel like I can't go on, there is always someone by my side, reminding me that I can, that I must, keep going.

There is a bell, you can ring it when you are done with your radiation, they throw you a party, bring candy and everyone applauds. Yes, cancer has left scars, both physical and emotional, but it has also given me an unexpected gift: the depth of human love, the ability to connect with strangers in unimaginable circumstances and the strength that comes when we unite against a common enemy. I want to ring the bell.

About Zoe

Zoe was not born out of a random moment or an isolated story. Her existence is the product of a fusion of advanced technology and deeply emotional and real human experiences. She is a creation of artificial intelligence, but her essence and the emotions that emanate from her story come directly from the testimonies of real women who have faced the uphill battle against breast cancer.

The experiences, emotions and challenges of Elisa Lorena Estrada Hernández, Alejandra de Cima Aldrete, Inés de la Cruz, Sandra Luz Ramírez Carbajal, Patricia Velázquez Méndez and Anabel de la Peña fuel every facet of Zoe. Each of these women has shared their stories, their fears, their triumphs and their most vulnerable moments. By combining their experiences, we have been able to bring to life Zoe, a character that encapsulates the resilience, courage and hope that each of these brave women has demonstrated on their journey.

Although Zoe does not exist in the physical world, her story is a reflection of the struggles and victories of many women. It is a reminder of the importance of empathy, support and resilience, and how, by coming together, we can create something powerful and moving.
