The Population and Housing Census 2020 estimated that in Mexico there are around 38.2 million children and teenagers under 18 years of age; of which 12.4 million are under 6 years of age1Can you imagine the civic responsibility we have towards the youngest children to guarantee their full development? Unfortunately, as these lines are being written, half of the children in early childhood are vulnerable. In Mexico, 5 out of every 10 children live in some degree of poverty,2 facing, on a daily basis, poor nutrition, lack of access to basic services, lack of health care and unfavorable environments that violate their fundamental rights.
In this context, Un Kilo de Ayuda is a Mexican organization with more than 37 years of experience that has been characterized by its tireless work to highlight the crucial window of opportunity that the first years of life represent for the development of a country. Its efforts have resulted not only in the direct impact on more than 500,000 children under 5 years of age throughout its history, but also in the implementation of innovative methods of dissemination and fundraising to bring all citizens closer to know and contribute to this important objective.
