Every year the question arises: What is the reason that drives us to march on March 8? The answer is deep and rooted in the daily reality of women; we struggle all year long and this day that struggle is made visible with the massive takeover of public space. This march represents a space of our own, a meeting place where our voices resonate strongly, inspiring actions and resistance throughout the rest of the year. For some, it is a unique opportunity to be heard.
We, as feminists, mobilize throughout the year, moved by the pain of the injustices that affect us directly and structurally.
We grieve for the 11 women murdered daily in Mexico as a result of male violence.
Sexual violence, which affects 50% of women according to INEGI data, hurts us.
We are pained by the persistent wage gap that does not respect our economic rights.
It pains us that in armed conflicts, as in Gaza and other regions, women's bodies are used as spoils of war.
