I live in a world where we aspire to equality and equity, but when it comes to education it is limited in my country and I find myself facing an injustice that directly affects my son Diego.
That's right! In Morelos, to be exact, they are not giving him the opportunity to continue with his secondary education despite earnestly asking the educational authorities by all means and even having a judicial injunction ordering his immediate enrollment in a secondary school. Yes, the Institute of Basic Education of the State of Morelos (@IEBEM) has refused to comply with this order, alleging his chronological age as justification for denying him access to secondary education.
I approached them and their first response was: do as you wish, but you can't, later they went to the private schools where Diego had studied his elementary school, claiming why they had allowed him to study there, they also did it with the directors of the school where I want to enroll him, this with insinuations and threats to take away the incorporation.
It is crucial to recognize that Diego's school age is 12 years old, and he has carried a special curriculum in all previous educational stages and in schools that have accepted him in the midst of a fully inclusive environment*. However, the current educational system seems incapable of adapting to the needs of students like him, thus perpetuating exclusion and discrimination at the high school level, and all because to them Diego is already an adult, and clearly, he is not!
They have been capable of even lying in their declarations in the amparo trial, in order not to comply with it, and they make me go round and round, without giving me an answer.
My fight for Diego's educational inclusion will not stop, because constitutionally, he has the same rights as all young people.
I have exhausted all available legal instances, and the Institute of Basic Education of the State of Morelos continues to ignore its constitutional obligations, even though it has already been fined twice for non-compliance with a federal mandate.
That is why I turn to the media and social networks to echo this injustice, seeking support and solidarity to ensure that Diego and all children, regardless of their abilities, have access to an inclusive and quality education according to their individual abilities.
It is time for the educational authorities to assume their responsibility and comply with the principles of equality and equity that they so often proclaim. Diego's case is not only an individual problem, but a reflection of the systemic barriers that hinder access to education for people with disabilities.
I demand justice for Diego and for all children facing similar situations.
Inclusive education is a fundamental right that cannot be ignored or denied.
*Diego has a cognitive disability and learning delay due to a genopathy.
