In my previous post https://www.opinion51.com/gabriela-soyomayor-2503-nos-feliciten I wrote about what, in my view, governments should do to address the promotion of gender equality and women's rights. Let us not forget our role as individuals, and:
What can we do on an individual scale?
1. Advocate for gender equality in our own lives: Inour work, our communities, and our own families and relationships. Let's make a conscious decision the next time we vote, hire someone, decide who does the housework, or advocate for the immense possibilities for girls in our lives.
2. The 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women , which is taking place in New York from March 10 to 21, reviews progress in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action. In addition, a number of global and regional reports are assessed, along with 150 national reports. The session is expected to receive significant global media attention, online discussions, campaigns and side events, opening up numerous opportunities for calls for new interventions and greater ambition. Follow UN Women for updates.
3. Join UN Women's global campaign #ForAndForAll and their call for mobilization with which they pursue the following objectives:
- Require leadership to enforce gender equality laws.
- Support women's rights organizations.
- Educate the next generation on gender equality. This is very important. It is unfortunate that many women are responsible for educating the males of the future.
- Amplify the voices of the people being left behind.
- Fight against stereotypes, biases and gender discrimination.
