A new school year began this Monday for higher education students, but not everyone will have the same opportunities they had last year. This is due to recent changes in science and technology policies, which are not as much talked about as free textbooks, but which could impair Mexico's ability to innovate.

On August 6, the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro published a communiqué announcing that 23 of its programs registered in the National Postgraduate System will not receive resources to provide scholarships to students. This program replaced the National Program for Quality Graduate Studies, modifying the rules to comply with the vision and priorities of this administration. Will it be the only higher education institution in this situation? Probably not, but it is the first public university to raise its voice.
