Last week the Secretary of the Navy took over the facilities of Ferrosur, a subsidiary of Grupo Mexico, on instructions from the President, on three stretches from Coatzacoalcos to Medias Aguas. The justification: an agreement was not reached between the company and the Federal Government in a strategic location for national security.
Beyond the particular interests of the affected company or the legal details of the measure, it seems to me that the way in which this "temporary occupation" (not to say expropriation) was carried out and the explanations given by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador send a worrying message that could hinder not only investment, but also the generation of formal jobs.
