Participating in Shark Tank was like swimming with sharks: a mix of excitement and adrenaline. Presenting our sporting goods brand to such an experienced group of investors was not only a challenge of numbers, but also of demonstrating our passion and vision. We knew we had to impress and we did, we even made them sweat! Simon Cohen, CEO of Henco Global, offered us 1 million pesos for 17.5% of our company and a 3 million peso loan to fuel our growth.
Entrepreneurship is like facing deep waters: it is full of uncertainty, but the key is not to let fear guide our decisions. Throughout our journey we have learned lessons that I want to share with those who are considering venturing into these waters:
Dare to start small: You don't need big investments to get started. We started with 20 thousand pesos and a clear vision. Growth happens little by little, and you don't have to be afraid to start with what you have.
Surround yourself with sharks that push you forward: Connecting with other entrepreneurs and seeking support networks has been fundamental. The advice and experiences of those who have already walked the path can help you avoid mistakes and open doors.
Know your numbers and defend your vision: In Shark Tank we understood that a good product is not enough; you must master your finances and show how your business will generate value. Confidence in your numbers is key to negotiate.
Learn to swim through failures: Mistakes are inevitable, but each obstacle overcome makes us stronger and better prepared for the future.
The power of women entrepreneurs
In Mexico, only 25% of the workforce is employed in companies led by women, according to INEGI data. We are proud to be part of this percentage and to contribute to the country's economic growth, but we also know that there is much to be done so that more women dare to be fearless entrepreneurs.
Our experience has taught us that it is not only about generating economic resources, but also about creating a positive impact on the lives of our team, clients and community. Maintaining an inclusive and respectful work environment has been essential for us.
Looking back, the biggest challenge was overcoming the fear of the first step. Today, we project sales of 15 million pesos for this year, but most importantly, we remain true to our mission of empowering people to achieve their goals, both in sports and in life.
If you are thinking about entrepreneurship, our advice is simple: don't let fear paralyze you. Seek support, trust your vision and keep going, even when the waters get rough. Because in the end, entrepreneurship is like swimming with sharks: it takes courage, but it's worth every stroke.
