President Claudia Sheinbaum called an assembly in the Zócalo to celebrate Trump's suspension of tariffs. Some specialists say that the purpose of this event was to strengthen her image, and they were not going wrong, because unlike her predecessor, Claudia Sheinbaum even invited governors who are not from her party showing a new facet.
The setback is very clear visually, when he passes by the stage, some of the most important leaders of Morena, such as: Andrés López Beltrán, María Luisa Alcalde, Adán Augusto, Ricardo Monreal and Manuel Velasco, turn their backs to him because they are attentive to a photo with López Obrador's son.
After some very unfortunate tweets (X) from all of them where their apology is that they were "too excited" when really in no image they look like that, the president on Monday in her morning conference sought to downplay the issue by saying: "On this issue, it is minor, they were distracted."
If Morena's leaders ignore Sheinbaum but react with more interest to a son of AMLO, it is not that they are "distracted", but they are showing where they believe real power resides and in turn giving a statement of loyalty to Andy.
The words are beautiful, but they don't represent half of the message.
Since nonverbal language is mostly unconscious, it is more difficult to fake and simulate and gives us information about the emotional state and attitudes of each person.
These Morena leaders are showing several things from their non-verbal language and we can analyze it with these disciplines:
- Oculesia studies a very important communication channel which is the gaze. It analyzes eye contact, blinking, pupil size, among other things, which can give us important information about someone's emotional state. We direct our gaze to what we consider valuable, to where our attention is. The president is right, they are distracted from her and the figure she represents, and are very attentive to Andres'.
- Posture shows our degree of interest, commitment or openness to a certain topic. Turning away can be a sign of indifference, disinterest or even contempt.
- Physical inclination may also be an inclination towards certain positions. Morena's leaders are leaning and showing closeness to the son of the former president. As studied in proxemics, anthropologist Edward Hall says that the use of distances that people make reveals the distance in their relationships with others. We get closer when we feel bond, admiration, liking and connection with someone in the same way we move away when we feel rejection, dislike or disinterest.
