"Giving is about building a connection with those around us, whether it's those across the street or across the world. It brings us together and that helps us understand each other better."
With this phrase, Neil Heslop, director of the Charitable Aid Foundation (CAF) presents the Global Giving Index 2023, which analyzes nothing less than "Global Trends in Generosity".
As in all global rankings, I was curious to immediately look for Mexico and was surprised to find that although we consider ourselves to be very generous, we are actually one of the countries at the back of the pack when it comes to donating money and time to humanitarian causes, ranking 99th out of 142 countries analyzed by CAF.
What does this ranking measure? Three variables: the number of people who have donated money, time or are part of civil society organizations (osc) and help to a person they don't know.
